Import Restrictions

An import permit is required for many goods. Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

• alcohol and spirits
• drugs and medicines
• firearms
• gold products
• meat
• mineral waters
• plants and cuttings
• saccharine
• sugarcane
• tobacco and cigarettes
• tapes, audio devices and computers
• weapons.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

• animals
• coin-making apparatus
• coins and medallions resembling legal coinage
• currency
• diamonds, rough
• essences used in making alcohol
• fish, tinned
• goods bearing the Red Cross or similar designs
• items contrary to the political and social order of the State
• liquor
• military equipment
• precious metals and stones
• trademarks, French, false or imitated
• weapons
• weights and measures, non-metric.

In addition, commercial goods mailed to Mauritania require an invoice.

The following documents may be required for imports:

1. Commercial Invoice with the name and address of the buyer and seller, the date and place where it was written, transport means, quantity, description of merchandise, and conditions of delivery and payment.

2. Certificate of Origin

3. Inspection Certificate.

An inspection certificate may be required for imported commercial goods.
