Import Restrictions

An import permit is required for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

  • coffee
  • drugs and poisons
  • fruit
  • lithographic copies of plans or maps with a scale less than 1:25000
  • machinery parts
  • meat and poultry products
  • milk and milk related products
  • medicines and patent medicines
  • musical instruments
  • plants or cuttings
  • printed publications
  • reproduction equipment needed to pursue a private trade
  • serums and vaccines
  • utensils
  • wireless sets.

Watches

Watch cases or housings (mounted or unmounted) of complete watches made of precious metals may be accepted after analysis of the metal content. It does not accept articles containing incomplete watch cases or parts.

Personal-use items

Postal items addressed to individuals may contain personal travel articles, articles for personal and family use (medicines, medical instruments, teaching and leisure material) and articles for the use of their household in quantities not intended for resale. Personal items not exceeding $30US are exempt from customs duty.

Legacy and contract items

Items inherited abroad and articles provided for in contracts concluded between States may be freely imported in accordance with such contracts.

Professional tools of trade

Natural persons of Slovenian nationality exercising a profession may import articles for use in that profession subject to special conditions.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

  • abortion procuring items
  • gold
  • precious stones
  • jewellery
  • money, coins
  • batteries
  • cashew nuts
  • cigarette paper
  • contraceptives
  • essences for artificial wines and brandies
  • firearms and parts
  • foreign products bearing Slovenia trademarks or imitated trade marks
  • graphite products
  • military uniforms of other states
  • pyrotechnic articles
  • whistles, spoons and food containers having a lead content over 10%
  • wines and must containing sulphuric acid
  • yeast
  • precious antiques
  • works of art
  • toxins
  • combustible items.

Documentation Required

Senders must provide proof of the addressee's entitlement on the customs documentation; otherwise, the addressee must provide the proof before delivery.

Customs authorities inspect all Parcels.
